Uncle Darren and Aunt Tia come visit

.
More family time!

Uncle Darren, Aunt Tia, and little cousin Grayson came down from Hershey, PA to visit us on Saturday. They just moved there the day before to start med school at U. Penn this fall. It was so fun to see them again and meet Grayson for the first time. Little brother Darren is all growed up! We're so proud of him for starting med school. We think he'll be a great doctor and we're looking forward to them being only two hours away for the next four years.

Hooray for cousins!

Also this week, we had a water leak in our house. We found it when we
noticed the door to the laundry room wouldn't shut right from swollen wood at the base. After much searching Patrick our plumber found the culprit--a faulty pressure control release valve that may have been slowly leaking for years and suddenly got worse. Adam has had to cut out sections of drywall and insulation, wash and bleach the moldy areas, and all around learn more about the structure of our little townhouse than he ever wanted to know. But we've finished the remediation work and now just have to wait until it completely dries out. Then Adam our handyman gets to learn all about installing drywall and patching it all up! (Adam's note: I'm much better at signing checks... but I'm learning.) Fortunately, all of the damage is behind closet doors and appliances, and most importantly, the pediatrician assured us that the kids should be safe.

Cleaning out the water damage... ugh.

In happier news, our little garden spot is bursting with summer bounty and we've reveled in all the yummy dishes from the harvest. For the first time, we've also been able to share some of the gains with our neighbors, which really makes Karen smile. Maybe one of these years we'll even have enough to can. It's been SUPER hot out here this past week (triple digits and very humid), but Karen's will-to-garden-power are still going strong and though the plants are suffering, most of them should pull through. Next year we've (Adam's note: i.e. Karen) determined to install a small drip irrigation system which would save hours of work and lower the plant mortality rate since all watering now is done by hand, often to the tune of wailing children who haven't yet internalized the law of the harvest.

Bonus Picture: Sarah and Ryan are buddies!

Looks like I'll miss you this trip. Lupe's dad is not expected to survive much longer, so I'll be making a beeline home. Looks like you had plenty of company this summer without me!
